RJ Rockers Brewing Company
RJ Rockers Brewing Company originally opened in 1997 as a brewpub. In 2002, it expanded to become a production facility. It quickly gained popularity throughout the Upstate and moved to its current location in the “Grain District” of downtown Spartanburg in 2009.
Today, Rockers boasts over 18 beers, including brown ales, IPAs, pilsners and wheat ales. Some crowd favorites are the “Son of A Peach”, which is a wheat beer brewed with local South Carolina peaches, and the Brown Eyed Squirrel, an American-style Brown Ale with hints of chocolate and caramel. RJ Rockers also has a rotating selection of seasonal brews from the summery Strawberry Bomber to the hearty First Snow Ale.
I first tried RJ Rockers last summer. I was waiting for my car to be serviced at a nearby windshield repair Spartanburg SC shop, and thought I’d stop in for a beer. The taproom was spacious and warehouse-style with a casual, comfortable atmosphere. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable, and helped me choose a beer. I decided on the “Son of A Peach”, and I was not disappointed. It was crisp and refreshing, and the hint of peach was delicious, but not too sweet or overpowering. It was a great experience, and I have been back several times since then. RJ Rockers Brewing Company is a must try if you’re visiting Spartanburg.

Rock Bottom Distillers
Rock Bottom Distillers is the premier destination for moonshine connoisseurs. It is the first legal moonshine distillery in Spartanburg County since prohibition, and is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Since 2012, Rock Bottom has made moonshine in small batches, using only the finest simple ingredients. They start with pure mountain spring water, and make their mashes with cracked corn and flaked barley, adding sugar and molasses to create a smooth and strong traditional moonshine. Aside from the original moonshine, Rock Bottom offers fruited moonshine and apple pie moonshine, and packages all of its spirits in Mason jars.
Rock Bottom offers free tours and tastings Monday through Saturday. While it is a small store and doesn’t look like much from the outside, the interior is surprisingly charming and well-decorated, and the owners and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
